During my time of working under the expertise of Journalists such as:

Kim Ludbrook http://www.kimludbrook.com/

I gained life long lessons about the in's and out's, cons and pros of photojournalism.
Here are some shots taken throughout 2009 during political rallies, election campaigns, captivating cultural lifestyle, in and around out urban jungle Johannesburg.

In the backroom booth

From workin the store, Ritual in town, to street flow galore.
Inta Galactic is one of those talented modest dudes, who rhymes for love and the hunger.
Real rad dude to hang with.
Rhyme skills are psychotic, and like every MC, you gotta start from the basement.
Workin on a way out the underground project, heres a little segment.
stay tuned for the rest.

Street Knowledge

I've had the honour of building a relationship between myself and an extremely knowledgeable individual.
Silence is his way of living, wasting time on meaningless conversations is what keeps his lips sealed.
Bring up, philosophy or the history of photography and a whole new side is reflected.
Madoda, an amazing photojournalist with immense knowledge.
If he's not on the streets shooting real life drama, you can find him in the corner of the Museum Africa. Reading.

Kids want mag space

I shot this AM contest a while back, doin a favour for Session skate mag.
The comp was enjoyable under the circumstances.
Nothing banging was planted firmly.
The Organization was true to Boogaloo's but the vibe was dope.
Kids Amped on Free Rags.
Big ups to Josh Chrisholm and his brother Calehm for taking the comp home.
Props to all the kids who laid it down.

Lost Toys

Somewhere in town i ran into an abandon carnival store-room.
The size of a Carnival.
Left with props and a whole lot to rot.
From time to time a passer by walks in destroying some old props for fire wood or scrap metal, just to get by.
Luckily for me, they weren't interested in selling body parts or camera pieces for spare change.
Here's what I captured.

Park destructo

Two weeks ago i decided to chill out and take some shots at a park.
Galloulies park.
Lookin forward to a nice peaceful and beautiful scenery.
I got there and there was the total opposite.
The park had been hit by Saturday night, harder than I had.
It was a muck.
Its disgusting how destructive humans can be.
I met a cheerful old man, direct from Germany.
He kept speaking in German, like i was some new aged black German who could totally understand, but by the sound of his tone, I knew exactly where he was coming from.
This is what I experienced.
Some parts we're real chilled.

Reclaiming the Canvas

Friday night I have a run in with Myza, we talk business, catch up and he tells me to come check out the expo he's having some work showcased at.
Saturday night I run into Mel, she informs me about the same event.
Sunday morning, I'm in no condition to go out to Pretoria or pick up my camera.
Sunday afternoon, Mike Bell, a good friend and brilliant photographer calls me up.
Tells me he's on the way to my place and we're headed to Pretoria.
Guess I'm up for it now.
The art was captivating.
The atmosphere and the people made it worth while.
Here's some shots of what I got.

Nature Interrupted

Sometimes when I'm hanging around a bus stop, walking without a set route, or letting my mind wander, I get amused and intrigued by the littlest things.
Living in the city, its hard to appreciate for the love of nature.
Here's some images I captured while letting my love for nature and my mind wander.

Ghetto Art Pit

I mentioned to my sister i was quite adamant on checking out the local art galleries.
Keen to see what was coming out from the smaller towns in Europe.
Checking out the unsung heroes and pioneers who never really get all that credit.
There's An Art Scene Quite Developed.
Larger than Smellville.
Out near the East a 30minute walk out of central town.
A place named "Tou Scene."
It was previously a beer bureau.
Then it went from abandonment, to...
Inside: 4 Stories of Art from street art to contemporary art and houses space for flea market art, CD's stalls and even clothing on Sundays.
On special events evenings, Tou Scene plays host to Indie\Nu-rave parties.
Surrounded by balconies with a view worth missing out on.
On the outside: Large canvas playground to graffiti artists and underground vandals.

As awesome as the venue is, on the outside its surrounded by ghetto like features, to some its totally off puttin, for me its more material to work with.
It adds character, to an up and coming Art Central.
This is what i got from a few trips back and forth night and day, from the outside, in.

I came into town and Stavanger was huge on Culture and Old Original Architecture.
Wandering about town now, you can see how the Art and Street Culture has emerged and influenced the streets around town.

Bookshelf dreaming

I got caught in a situation. Stuck in a place surrounded by captivated imagination.
In all shapes and sizes, covered in hard cover disguises.
In the past, i wouldn't look by twice...
But i guess change is good.
So... entertain myself in a bookstore.
or perhaps be entertained.
somehow I let both options dwell on me pretty successfully.
I survived being in a bookstore for more than 4hours.
and enjoyed it for the most part.
I even went back.
Perhaps because of the company I had too.
I enjoy spending my pre-madness-Friday night memory loss here.

Somehow it unfolded into this

Its funny how when your passionate about something, and you have a friend, companion or stranger in your company who is mutually passionate about the same thing, there seems to be a instant stronger bond between the two of you.
You tend to isolate yourselves from the rest of the crowd and feed off one anothers flowing enthusiastic energy and learn from each other, seem to understand the "yeah yeah add this and it will be a banger!" jabber from each other...

Hanging over with the hommies, literally after a all round 4 hour sleep induced weekend, out in linksfield.
Descisions made to make our Sunday worth chilling into productive chilling became effortless for my imagination vs. boredom.
I needed to porve that i could work under any terrible conditions my mind had been through.
I have to thank my dear friend Alon who was That Photography Friend.
great mind dude.
enjoy this.
excuse the blur.
dirty lens.

The Rock

The Rock Sessions.
Out in the burbs there is a lost park, dilapidated, crusty, and full of potential.
But character makes up the better half of this island.

Theres comes a point in most skaters lives when you come to realise, the joy of the mission and skating sketchy spots.
Just rolling on your board, bombing hills, chilling out, goofing off and just being with your fellow brothers.
Feeling the love
its whats its all about.
At the rock, this is where it goes down in the burbs.
